The state is going high-tech for summer fire season. CalFire has more than a thousand cameras mounted to detect smoke and flames faster than ever before. And it’s thanks to artificial intelligence technology. The software is basically doing the job of what someone in a lookout tower would do and then alerting command centers. Six sites are currently testing it out and training the AI programs to eventually become seasoned fire spotters.
