Governor Newsom Signs Several Budget Bills Into Law

California Governor Gavin Newsom signed a long list of budget and infrastructure bills into law Monday, saying they will build more, faster.

“$311-billion dollar budget, 226-billion dollar general fund, the largest budget of its kind anywhere in the United States,” said Newsom. “Appropriate for a state whose population is larger than 21 state populations combined.”

Some of the new laws include funding for early childcare and education, housing, transportation and green energy. Newsom says the legislation represents an urgent push to take full advantage of an unprecedented 180-billion dollars in state, local, and federal infrastructure funds over the next ten years. Some of the new laws will streamline permitting, expedite court reviews and simplify documentation for environmental review. Assembly Speaker Robert Rivas said the new spending agreement will spur “future growth and good-paying jobs while defending our environment.”
