A Sonoma man who fired at Sheriff’s deputies is getting 21 years in prison. Forty-four-year-old Nathan Smart was sentenced on Friday after taking a plea deal on June 21st. He pleaded no contest to one count of assault on a police officer with a gun. Smart shot at officers last October after threatening to kill his mother and himself, and after vandalizing several cars in downtown Sonoma. Smart reportedly wanted to start a gun battle with officers that would end his life. He was shot a few times and recovered at U.C. Davis Medical Center. Neither deputy involved were injured.
