A contract has been approved to provide broadband internet in Sonoma County. The Board of Supervisors have approved an agreement with Golden State Connect Authority to expand broadband internet infrastructure with an emphasis on providing service to unserved and underserved areas of unincorporated Sonoma County. The Board of Supervisors also approved $1.5-million in American Rescue Plan Act funding to enable completion of detailed design planning for more than 200 miles of open access broadband infrastructure. The agreement with Golden State Connect Authority does not preclude the county from working directly with internet service providers in the future to build out the county’s broadband infrastructure.
