Racehorse Dies at Sonoma County Fairgrounds After a Bone Injury

A racehorse died at the Sonoma County Fair on the first day the fair opened this year. A 3-year-old thoroughbred filly, Danehill Song, was competing in a race at the fair on Thursday and took a bad step after losing the lead. Danehill Song suffered a musculoskeletal injury and was euthanized. CEO of the Sonoma County Fairgrounds and Event Center, Becky Bartling, told the Press Democrat that the incident is “sad” but will not affect future horse racing decisions at the Fairgrounds. Danehill Song is the 47th horse to die during the 2023 California Racing season.
