A Santa Rosa man has received a four year prison sentence for providing fentanyl to a woman who overdosed and died. Twenty-eight-year-old Chase Kirby was sentenced to one count of involuntary manslaughter Thursday after reaching a plea agreement last month. One count of selling or transporting narcotics was dismissed as part of the plea. In September 2021, Kirby offered 23-year-old Ruby Torrens fentanyl in exchange for a place to stay. They overdosed in the RV parked on Torren’s family’s property in Cotati; Kirby on meth and Torrens on fentanyl. Torrens died at the scene while Kirby was taken to Petaluma Valley Hospital in critical condition.
