Cardinal Newman Football Coach Throws Out Reporter Amidst Discrimination and Retaliation Lawsuit

There are new developments after a former Cardinal Newman High School student-athlete sued the school for racial discrimination and retaliation. The Press Democrat reports head football coach Richard Sanchez kicked one of the paper’s sports reporters off the field Tuesday. Staff writer Gus Morris says the campus president had granted him permission to be there. The alleged incident happened on the same day the newspaper published a story about the lawsuit. A former student, who is Black, claims he was kicked off the football team and expelled from school earlier this year, as retaliation for speaking out against Sanchez, who he accuses of making racist and discriminatory comments.
