Watsonville Man Gets Nearly 25 Years in Prison for Gas Station Robbery and High Speed Chase

A man who robbed a gas station near Santa Rosa and led police on a high speed chase has been sentenced to prison. Thirty-six-year-old Jose-Angel Mendez-Torres from Watsonville was sentenced last Friday to 24 years and eight months in prison. Torres was convicted back in June by a jury for several counts, including robbery, commercial burglary, driving under the influence of a drug and fleeing police. The robbery happened on August 15th of 2022 at a 76 gas station north of Santa Rosa. He fled with the cash register, stealing more than $2,000. The next day, Torres was pulled over in Rohnert Park for an expired registration tag and underwent a sobriety test. During the test, he got back into his car and fled leading to a chase that ended when he struck another vehicle head on causing injuries to that driver. Torres would be arrested in Hinebaugh Creek after fleeing from his car.
