Homeless Count Shows Drop in Sonoma County But Some Concerns Arise

Homelessness has dropped in Sonoma County but it’s not all good news. The Point in Time census taken in January shows that it dropped 22-percent from the previous year. The count showed 2,266 homeless people in the county, down by over 600 from 2022. However, there are several areas of concern. Black residents now account for 9-percent of the county’s homeless population compared to 6-percent in 2020. Chronic homelessness also remains an issue with two-thirds of those surveyed saying they’ve been homeless for a year or more. Finally, 35-percent of those surveyed say they were experiencing homelessness for the first time.
