Sonoma County Approves Two New Housing Sites Replacing Old Shelters

New homeless sites have been approved by the county. The Sonoma County Board of Supervisors have voted to replace the Emergency Shelter Site at the County campus with housing systems that are longer-term. The new 2.4-acre site on Russell Avenue will have a mix of RV and trailer parking with tiny homes. The board also approved the phasing-out of 3.5-year-old pallet shelters at Los Guilicos Village in favor of refurbished dormitories on the site. The new sites are expected to be open by the end of the year and will cost about $3-million dollars. The moves were made as Supervisors received a report that showed the number of homeless individuals in Sonoma County decreased by 22-percent from last year.
