Asante VanDyke (GoFundMe Page)
Friends and family of a deceased Santa Rosa man gathered to bring attention to violence in the community which took his life. Those who loved Asante VanDyke marched from Santa Rosa City Hall to the intersection of Mendocino Avenue and Carrillo Street where Asante was killed. It was organized by his mother, Kelli Clark, on what would’ve been his 28th birthday. Many carried signs with pictures of VanDyke and chanted “Stop the Violence.” “Justice for Asante.” Some signs called out local leaders like Santa Rosa Mayor Natalie Rogers for not doing enough to address community violence. VanDyke was shot dead this past February after being involved in a fight between two groups of people. Some people were stabbed during the altercation but survived. Two people have been arrested for the fight, including VanDyke’s shooter, but a third suspect is still on the loose.
