Santa Rosa City Council Limiting Public Comment at Meetings

The Santa Rosa City Council will be limiting public comments following a rise in hate speech from online commenters during local public meetings. People are now only allowed to comment in-person, or submit written comments before meetings. For the foreseeable future, comments made via Zoom and in prerecorded voicemail messages will not be accepted. The Santa Rosa City Schools Board made a similar change earlier this week. The Sonoma County Board of Supervisors has also seen a flood of anti-semitic, racist, and homophobic comments made virtually in recent weeks. They are limiting public comment to in-person or email for their meetings for the rest of the year.
