The Save the Redwoods League is officially buying nearly 400 acres of forest land near Guerneville. The conservation group says it closed escrow on its six-point-five-million-dollar purchase last Friday. It means the area, known as the Russian River Redwoods, will never be developed or commercially logged. The purchase also protects the massive Clar Tree, which is one of the tallest trees in Sonoma County, and is estimated to be about two-thousand-years old.
