Two More Bills by Senator Bill Dodd Signed by Governor Newsom

Two more bills authored by North Bay State Senator Bill Dodd has been signed by the Governor.

First, SB 667 clarifies existing law to ensure nurse midwives are able to continue to provide essential healthcare services before and after pregnancy. It aims to cut through redundant requirements that might otherwise limit a certified nurse midwife from practicing to their full extent and training as the original law, SB 1237, intended. That bill was passed in 2020, also written by Dodd, and increased medical access for all women and birthing people, especially those in rural or inner-city settings.

Also, rural parts of California could soon have broadband internet connectivity after the signing of a new law. Governor Newsom is has endorsed Napa Senator Bill Dodd’s bill to increase flexibility in how California leases property that could be used to support statewide broadband development. Examples are properties administered by Caltrans, Parks and Recreation and Fish and Wildlife. Dodd says the law will create incentives for internet companies to invest in much-needed infrastructure improvements. He adds the change will help fill in unserved zones and help get high-speed data to those who need it for work, school and home life, especially in under served communities.
