Outdoor dining has become so popular that the COVID-era phenomenon can now live on in California. The new law will enable continued outdoor, patio and al fresco dining as restaurants continue to recover from the pandemic and navigate rising costs. The law builds upon regulations which were given more flexibility during the pandemic allowing more outdoor food preparation and service, increased outdoor dining capacity and outdoor alcohol service. Governor Gavin Newsom’s signature extends the regulatory flexibility to July first, 2026.
