Today, a judge could decide if the suspect in a 2016 murder in Rohnert Park will be tried in juvenile or adult court. Daniel Carrillo, now 23-years-old, is accused of murdering Kirk Kimberly when he was 16-years-old. The two were classmates at Rancho Cotate High School. Carrillo was initially charged as an adult after his arrest in 2020. But, last year, Governor Gavin Newsom signed a bill, which brought forth stricter standards for when minors can be charged as adults. It retroactively applies to unresolved cases, like Carrillo’s.
