Napa Valley Vineyard First for Offering Hazard Pay and Disaster Insurance in the Area

A vineyard in the Napa Valley is the first in the region to provide its workers with hazard pay and disaster insurance. Boeschen Family Vineyards, just north of Saint Helena, introduced the opportunity to its workers at the start of this year’s harvest. If the air quality index is higher than 150, Boeschen’s workers will be able to receive time-and-a-half if they stay on the job, or choose to take paid time off. Laborers will also be paid if they are forced to leave a worksite because it’s part of an evacuation order. Last year, the Sonoma County Board of Supervisors approved a three-million-dollar disaster emergency fund to compensate workers during times of wildfires, floods and other disasters.
