Three local groundwater agencies are getting grants to help Sonoma County groundwater resilience. The California Department of Water resources is giving over $15-million to three Groundwater Sustainability Agencies: Petaluma Valley Groundwater Sustainability Agency, Sonoma Valley Groundwater Sustainability Agency, and Santa Rosa Plain Groundwater Sustainability Agency. Supervisor Susan Gorin, who is also chair of the Sonoma Valley Groundwater Sustainability Agency Board of Directors, outlines their goals.
“Reducing demand on groundwater, substituting recycled water from the sanitation treatment plant, and measuring the water and the impact of the drawdown in the future,” said Gorin.
These grants are part of California’s Go Golden Initiative, which highlights the partnership between the state of California and local organizations and water agencies to fund bold and innovative projects that strengthen California’s water infrastructure and community resilience.
