Apple Harvests Hit Hard in Sonoma County Thanks to Moth

Several apple orchards in Sonoma County have a smaller harvest this year, and an invasive moth is to blame. There has been a severe outbreak of the codling moth in the late summer and early fall. The larvae feed inside apples, making them no longer edible. Experts blame the outbreak on the past winter being so wet and on the past spring being cooler than usual. But, the damaged organic apples are not entirely a loss. They can still be safely used to make apple cider vinegar.
