CPUC Approves PG&E Rate Hike Beginning on January 1st, 2024

The California Public Utilities Commission on Thursday voted unanimously to allow Pacific Gas and Electric to raise it’s rates for gas and electricity. The utility was originally asking for an increase of 25-percent over four years but regulators came back with a pair of lower proposals closer to 13-percent. Many Californian’s and state lawmakers voiced disapproval of the plan during public comment. Ultimately, commissioners urge low-income customers to seek out and apply for aid to help with bills but still approved the rate hike. The vote will result in an average monthly increase of just over 22 dollars for electric-only customers, 10 bucks a month for gas-only and over 32-dollars per month for people who have both gas and electric. The new rates will start January 1st.
