Travel Rush on for California as CHP Look for Unsafe Drivers

The Thanksgiving travel rush is on across California. The state is expected to break a record this weekend with seven-and-a-half million people leaving town. That’s three-percent more than last year. But when it comes to destinations, three cities are ranked as the worst for holiday travel. A study from Forbes puts Los Angeles at number two, showing nearly 19-percent of departing flights delayed or canceled between 2018 and last year. Fresno came in at 16 followed by San Diego.

Meanwhile, the California Highway Patrol’s Maximum Enforcement period begins this evening for the Thanksgiving holiday.  The CHP’S Jim Bettancourt says officers up and down California know the busy and hot spots and will be strategically placed throughout the state.  He says during last year’s Thanksgiving Holiday period, statewide there were one-thousand DUI’s and 40 deaths.  Extra officers will be on the road beginning at 6 p.m. and will go on until midnight Sunday. The CHP says they are looking for drivers not wearing their seatbelts, those under the influence, drowsy drivers and speeders.
