Sonoma County supervisors have not yet approved tougher restrictions that would make it harder to cut down many species of native trees, including oaks. County planning commissioners have proposed new land-use provisions. The Board of Supervisors could have approved the provisions last week, but decided not to amid concerns about specific details. The new set of rules would expand existing protections for certain tree species and add new rules to protect oak woodlands from development and vineyard expansion. All five supervisors have said they support expanding protections for native trees.
