The Sonoma County Board of Supervisors is declaring a local emergency due to the ongoing bird flu outbreak. The declaration allows the county’s director of emergency management, Jeff DuVall, to make decisions regarding the outbreak. Evidence of an outbreak was first detected at a commercial duck farm on November 22nd. Two local poultry farms have since decided to euthanize more than a quarter million ducks and laying hens. The declaration may also lead to funding for public safety, emergency services, and support for businesses and employees impacted by the bird flu outbreak.
