Bird Flu Found at a 4th Poultry Farm in Sonoma County

A 4th poultry farm in Sonoma County has detected Avian Flu. The unidentified egg farm near Petaluma detected a case a week ago resulting in the euthanizing of 270,000 laying hens. That is the largest loss of farm-raised birds so far this season due to avian flu in California. Over 1 million commercially raised chickens, ducks and turkeys across five counties in the state have had to be put down over the past two months due to the outbreak. Meanwhile, 14 counties in the state have detected bird flu in wild birds this fall.
