Hundreds Turn Out for Santa Rosa School Board Meeting Wanting Leaders to Address School Safety

Hundreds of people attended Wednesday night’s highly anticipated Santa Rosa City Schools board meeting, which focused on campus safety. Many parents and other community members wore red, the school color of Montgomery High School, where a student was stabbed to death in a classroom earlier this year. Many people who were in attendance have been critical of the school board, saying little has been done to improve safety since that stabbing in March. In just the past two weeks, there has been an on-campus fight involving a knife at Santa Rosa High School and several other instances of students bringing weapons to school. The meeting lasted more than four hours.

The board did agree to create an exploratory committee to look into the possibility of bring back School Resource Officers or SROs permanently. Superintendent Anna Trunnell has approved SROs to be on all high school campuses through the end of 2023.
