A Eureka man has been convicted by a jury for breaking into a building just outside of Ukiah in February and setting it on fire while he was locked inside. Twenty-seven-year-old Benjamin Ervin James Dimmick was convicted of one count each of arson and burglary. Sentencing for those crimes are on hold, however, until after Dimmick attends felony proceedings next month for a count of missing a June court appearance while out on bail. He is currently in Mendocino County Jail in lieu of $50,000 bail. Back in February, Dimmick broke into and started several fires inside G&C Auto Body north of Ukiah. Police broke through Dimmick’s barricade and arrested him as smoke filled the room. Firefighters soon afterwards put out the blaze.
