Air quality regulators in the Bay Area have issued a wood burning ban for today. The indoor and outdoor wood burning ban comes after a Spare the Air Alert was issued by the Bay Area Air Quality Management District. Right now, there is a high level of wood smoke pollution in the nine-county Bay Area region. The pollution, combined with light winds and low overnight temperatures, is causing unhealthy air quality. People caught burning wood could be fined 100-dollars if it’s their first offense and 500 dollars if it’s their second offense. Those who rely on wood sources as their only source of heat are exempt from the ban.
