Bicyclists in Sonoma County are at odds with Recology about trash bins and other obstacles in bike lanes. Eris Weaver, the executive director of the Sonoma County Bicycle Coalition, tells the Press Democrat she used to add stickers saying “keep bins out of the bike lane” to trash bins that got in her way. Now, she just moves them out of the way, but says she’s been honked at, yelled at, sworn at and physically threatened for doing so. The newspaper asked the Santa Rosa Police Department about bike lane violations. A spokesperson says the department got almost a quarter-million requests for service last year and doesn’t have the resources or staff for a dedicated parking enforcement division that would handle the issue.
