San Rafael is looking for a new fire chief. Darin White has announced he is stepping down from the position to pursue “new ways to make communities safer.” His resignation goes into effect March 31st but deputy chief Abraham Roman has been named acting chief. White was Oakland’s fire chief before leaving that position in 2019 to take the San Rafael job. San Rafael has had trouble holding on to firefighters, as officials say many have left the department in recent years for better paying jobs elsewhere.
