Bodega Bay is seeing some of its largest waves in the past 15 years. On Thursday morning, the Bodega Bay buoy monitored by the National Weather Service was reporting wave heights of 28 feet. Those are the second highest waves recorded in the area since 2008. The highest waves in the location, 31-feet, were recorded on January 5th of this year. A high surf warning and high wind advisory remain in effect until at least 6 PM Friday evening.

At least one person is injured as waves of up to 33 feet high slam the Sonoma County coast. The person was knocked down by a wave at Salt Point Beach and pulled underwater on Thursday afternoon. The person was able to get out of the water on their own and was treated by medics. The National Weather Service calls the ocean conditions “deadly” and says larger than usual waves will continue throughout the weekend.
