Two North Bay Lawmakers are pushing for the Dungeness crab to be a state symbol. Assemblyman Jim Wood and State Senator Mike McGuire have co authored bills to name the crab California’s official crustacean. In a statement, Wood said “The Dungeness crab is an iconic crustacean in California and one that has made a significant contribution to the economies of coastal communities in California and to those in the commercial fishing industry.” The bills were introduced last Friday when Commercial Dungeness Crab Season finally started…. however, that is only between the Sonoma/Mendocino County line to the Oregon Border.
