Newsom Unveils Budget Plan for California Taking Aim at $38-Billion Gap

California Governor Gavin Newsom is unveiling his first draft of a budget spending plan. The 291-billion dollar state budget aims to close a 38-billion dollar gap. That’s an adjusted deficit from the 68-billion dollar shortfall projected by the Legislative Analysts Office last month. Newsom says his spending plan keeps promises to fund critical issues such as homelessness, education, crime and mental health reform.
