Point Reyes Man Dies in Avalanche at Tahoe Resort

A Bay Area skier killed in an avalanche is being remembered. Kenneth Kidd lost his life yesterday at the Palisades Tahoe ski resort near Lake Tahoe. The 66-year-old was found buried in snow just 30 minutes after a lift to expert-level slopes opened. He had homes in Point Reyes and Truckee. The Placer County Sheriff’s Office confirmed his identity last night and sent “heartfelt condolences” to his family and friends.

Another person who was injured suffered a minor, non-life-threatening injury. Two other people were caught in the avalanche but were not hurt. The avalanche happened near a ski lift which opened for the first time this ski season on Wednesday. It had been deemed safe to open.
