Commercial Dungeness crab season will begin in the Bay Area next Thursday. The season traditionally starts in mid-November. But, it has been postponed to protect whales and sea turtles from getting caught in fishing gear. The California Department of Fish and Wildlife is still imposing limits to protect marine life. Commercial fishing boats will only be allowed to operate with half of their traps.
