California Gets Poor Grades in Caring for Kids

The 2024 California Children’s Report Card is out and it’s not good. The biannual study conducted by nonprofit Children Now shows that California is doing poorly in the five major categories of health, education, family supports, child welfare and cross-sector issues. Many subcategories received C’s and D’s such as child care, early intervention and special education, school climate, and STEM education. Ted Lempert, Children NOW’s president wrote “On too many issues … California has failed to significantly improve outcomes for kids, allowing unacceptable and economic disparities to stagnate and in many cases grow.”
