A family resource center at John Reed Elementary in Rohnert Park may have to close soon due to a lack of funding. Since it opened last May, the center has served over 200 families by giving out much needed resources like food and clothes. They also offer referrals to several different services and have helped families fill out aid applications to PG&E, 4C’s child care, as well as Medi-Cal and Cal-Fresh. However, a county workforce grant for the staff is set to expire on August 30th. The Child Parent Institute, which helped open the center at John Reed Elementary, tells the Press Democrat that if they cannot get replacement funding, the center may significantly reduce its hours or even close entirely. The current grant allots just over $375,000 for staff salaries, benefits and training.
