The trial of two men charged with murder in connection with a deadly shooting outside of a nightclub in Roseland is underway. The trial began with opening statements on Tuesday. The shooting happened in late September of 2021, outside of the Whiskey Tip nightclub. The two suspects are accused of shooting at a man 29 times, hitting him 19 times. Prosecutors are calling the shooting premeditated murder, saying the two men went to the bar just to kill the victim. The case also had ties with Santa Rosa City Councilman Eddie Alvarez. In early 2022, detectives investigating the murder served a search warrant on Alvarez and seized two of his cellphones. The search warrant was based on an anonymous tip letter that had falsehoods in it, and Alvarez does not appear to be part of the case at this time.
