Road barriers have been put up at two access points to Petaluma’s Lakeville Highway as a temporary safety solution. They are located at South McDowell Extension and Pine View Way where they feed into Lakeville Highway. Petaluma City officials put the barriers up after the death of 79-year-old Beverly Kleven on February 1st. She attempted to turn west onto Lakeville from Pine View Way but was struck by an eastbound car. Petaluma City officials can’t do anything directly with Lakeville Highway itself as that falls under the control of Caltrans. They tell the Press Democrat that changes to that area of the highway to make it safer could take years.
