A Santa Rosa man has received a nearly 10-year prison sentence for attempted rape. Jamonie Stevens received a 9-year and 8-month prison sentence last Friday for attempting to rape a woman in October 2022. The 28-year-old was convicted of assault with intent to rape, making criminal threats and false imprisonment. The incident involved a woman only identified as Jane Doe who was walking home from a Santa Rosa restaurant when Stevens approached her. He grabbed the woman several times, trying to pull her into dark areas, touched her inappropriately and threw her to the ground. She managed to call her boyfriend for help over the phone. Stevens ran away when the woman arrived at her boyfriend’s house, and as the boyfriend drove his vehicle towards Stevens. Stevens was arrested a couple days later at the Santa Rosa transit mall.
