Suspect Dies and Four Deputies Injured in Car Chase and Shooting West of Santa Rosa

Sonoma County Sheriff deputies have been injured in a shootout with a suspect. Early this morning, just after midnight, deputies responded to reports of a person brandishing a rifle west of Santa Rosa. The suspect led deputies on a chase, stopping to fire at them and then continuing the chase. Deputies returned fire and ultimately the suspect crashed. The suspect was killed, and four deputies were injured. One has a gunshot wound to the leg, two have hand injuries, and a fourth has a head injury and is in the hospital in critical but stable condition. Santa Rosa Police will take over the investigation of the deputy involved shooting, including access to bodycam footage. The area around the incident is closed indefinitely, including Stony Point Road south of Bellevue to Todd Road, and Todd Road between Stony Point and Moreland is closed.
