A Santa Rosa resident convicted of shooting a friend from Windsor to death will be sentenced tomorrow morning as scheduled. That’s after a judge rejected Juan Antonio Martinez’s bid to withdraw his no contest plea, which he entered in early February. Martinez, who was initially supposed to be sentenced last month, is facing up to 20 years to life in prison for murder and posing as a kidnapper to commit extortion. Five days after the victim was reported missing in June of 2022, someone with a disguised voice called his wife and demanded a ransom. A few days later, police found the victim’s body buried in a shallow grave in Forestville.
