A state senate committee is advancing State Senator Bill Dodd’s bill on AI accountability. The California AI Accountability Act passed the Senate Governmental Organization committee yesterday and will be heard before the Senate Judiciary Committee next week. If it passes both chambers of the state legislature, the bill will guide the decision-making of state agencies, departments and subdivisions in the review, adoption, management, governance and regulations of automated decision-making technologies. One provision in the bill would require state agencies to notify users when they are interacting with AI. The bill also recommends that the private sector to adhere to similar standards. And the act encourages the state to invest in AI education and build AI competency in the state’s workforce.
