Sonoma County will be cutting ties with its homeless services contractor DEMA Management and Consulting. It follows a vote by the Sonoma County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday. The contract between DEMA and the county has already expired. Despite that, the Department of Health Services was asking the board to maintain the company’s contract through July 31st. The board is also ordering county staff to replace DEMA as the manager of two key homeless housing sites. One is a managed tent site and the other is a converted hotel. The board’s decision follows a financial investigation into DEMA and legal threats against the county from the company’s CEO.
