Criticism is being leveled against Santa Rosa City Schools District over improving Maria Carrillo High School. Recently, nearly a half-million dollars have been put aside towards a “curb-appeal” project at the school. It would mainly address overgrown vegetation, particularly around the neglected area of Maria Carrillo’s stadium at the base of the track and field and the pole vault area. However, the Press Democrat reports that several parents and other staff in the district are upset that Maria Carrillo is getting preference over other athletic programs with greater needs like the baseball programs at Piner and Santa Rosa High Schools. The district has stated they may do other “curb appeal” projects at the other school sites in the future.
