A popular movie theater in east Santa Rosa is slated to be replaced by a gym. A public notice sent to neighbors this week says there are plans to turn Summerfield Cinemas, across from Howarth Park, into a Planet Fitness. The theater’s lease is still active and it’s unclear when it would close. The five-screen Summerfield Cinemas is known for showing independent and foreign films. The fitness center proposal will be presented to Santa Rosa’s zoning administrator during a hearing on May 16th.
