Eggs of Insect That Could Harm Vineyards Found in Shipment Bound for Sonoma County

Eleven spotted lanternfly egg masses were found in an art shipment bound for Sonoma County. The discovery was made in late March, at the Truckee agricultural inspection station on the California-Nevada border. But, it was not announced by the California Association of Winegrape Growers until Monday. The spotted lanternfly is a pest known to cause serious damage to vineyards and now is the time of year their eggs hatch. Thirty more egg clusters were found after the shipment, sent from New York, was sent back to Nevada. The spotted lanternfly has been found in 18 states.
