Judge Rules Downtown Parking May Be Turned Into Affordable Housing

A Sonoma County judge has ruled that Santa Rosa has the right to redevelop the Third and D Street parking garage into affordable housing. The lawsuit by the Airport Business Center, a major commercial landlord, had tried to stop a sale or lease deal to keep spaces for its office tenants who use the Third Street garage. Superior Court Judge Patrick Broderick said it’s within the city’s discretion to redevelop city property and that Santa Rosa officials followed proper procedure in designating the garage as surplus property.
