Sebastopol Considering Upping Sales Tax Over Budget Concerns

The city of Sebastopol is considering raising its sales tax as it works to fill a two-point-nine-million-dollar budget hole. The city could add a measure to November’s ballot asking voters to approve a quarter-cent or half-cent sales tax bump. The city is also proposing several funding cuts, including cuts to the Sebastopol Area Senior Center, Ives Pool and Sebastopol Community Cultural Center. Other proposed cuts include holding off on filling two open positions in the police department. The city will hold two town halls to gather public input on the proposals. The first one is set for next Monday, and the second one is slated for two days later on Wednesday.
