California’s drought status is expanding for the first time since the beginning of the year. The state peaked on June 18th with just one percent of California in any drought status. But the last three weeks have seen a downgrade for the first time since January, and over the last week, the numbers jumped to 19-percent of the state in drought status. Less than one percent is in moderate drought status, with the other 18 percent in the lowest level, abnormally dry. Most of the decreases have been in an area from Mono County, south of Lake Tahoe, to the Oregon border.
