The Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office is being sued by its civilian oversight board. The Independent Office of Law Enforcement Review and Outreach claims Sheriff Eddie Engram refused subpoenas for an interview with an employee in May. He is also accused of refusing to comply with subpoenas requesting disciplinary and internal investigation records for several deputies and other Sheriff’s Office personnel. The subpoenas were issued in connection with a whistleblower case. Speaking with the Press Democrat, Engram says the civilian oversight board overstepped its limits when it started investigating a whistleblower complaint. The Sheriff also says a union backing many of his deputies threatened to sue if he complied with the subpoenas.
